Essential oils and herbs for gourmet cooking can be added to any recipe - sweet or savoury. Of course, some are more suitable to one or the other. Some are easy to use in both sweet and savoury recipes.

Essential oils are different from common vegetable oils such as olive, flax or sesame oils. While both have benefits, cooking with essential oils can be a healthy alternative in flavoring foods and beverages.

Homemade Maple Hemp Milk

Homemade Maple Hemp Milk (Fast & Easy)

Prep time 5 mins Total time 5 mins

I make small batches of this maple hemp milk as it's very easy to make and tastes best within the first couple of days. If preferred, you can double the batch, refrigerate and optimally use within 3 days.

Serves: 2¼ cups

  • ½ cup shelled hemp seeds ( great recommend Bob's Red Mill Hulled Hemp Seed Hearts)
  • 2 cups water, divided
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup Grade B or to taste
  • ½ teaspoon pure vanilla flavoring or extract (Simply Organic Pure Non-Alcoholic Vanilla)
  • Pinch sea salt

  1. Place the hemp seeds in your blender with half of the water. Blend until relatively smooth and creamy, 1 to 2 minutes. You will still see some little bits of hemp seed, that's okay.
  2. Add the remaining water, maple syrup, vanilla, and salt and blend until relatively smooth and creamy.
  3. Strain the maple hemp milk through a nut milk bag or (my method) through a sieve lined with a few layers of cheesecloth. Squeeze to extract all of the creamy goodness.
  4. If chilling any leftovers, stir before serving - it will separate a bit.

Notes Hemp Seed Pulp: There shouldn't be much remaining after you strain the hemp milk as hemp seeds do blend up fairly easily, but any pulp from your cheesecloth or nut milk bag can be tossed into oatmeal or baked recipes (such as granola or muffins).

 Rosa M. Las Vegas, NV

Vegan Chef Mayra completed a demo at my after-school-club for my students. Not only did she prepare fresh, organic, and fabulous food (smoothies, vegan potato salad, fruit dishes...), she also educated the students about nutrition and the benefits of cruelty-free cuisine.

Chef Mayra is passionate about her craft and is very professional. Above all, she kept the students engaged. The pupils enjoyed both her food and her energy!

Anita Chandra . Las Vegas

I'm neither a vegetarian nor a vegan, but after having Chef Myra's meals....I'd switch in a second. She fuses exotic cuisines that leaves you wanting more. Simple yet oh so tasty. She takes immense pride in her creations, and that translates into the best meal you'll ever have. If you've not had her food, you really are missing out!

M. Las Vegas

Chef Mayra blazed a trail to open the path for the vegan wave in Las Vegas. Her (now closed) Pura Vida restaurant was our first 100% vegan restaurant, and Mayra's cooking touched everyone's hearts and souls. Although she has not had a brick and mortar location for a couple of years now, she remains at the forefront of vegan cooking in Vegas by doing a wide variety of vegan events and continues to excite people's tastebuds, touch their hearts with her food, and champion compassionate choices when it comes to our diets and the well being of our individual temples, and the planet as a whole. Absolutely DELICIOUS food! Chef Mayra is our Rock Star vegan chef!
